Sukran, Venus

History

Kanjanur is the sthalam for Sukran. Agni is claimed to have worshipped Lord Shiva here and hence the name Agneeswarar.As per the Temple tale (Sthala Purana), Lord Brahma was blessed with a vision of Shiva's marriage with Parvathy here. The Brahma Lingam housed in this Temple is supposed to have been worshipped by Lord Brahma himself. There is no distinct sannidhi (shrine) for Lord Sukra as Lord Shiva himself is supposed to have incarnated as Venus here.

Lord Shukra, is the name the son of Bhrigu and Ushana, and preceptor of the Daityas, and the guru of the Asuras, connected with the planet Venus (with honorific, Shukracharya). Sukra is of whit complexion, middle aged and is often represented with four hands riding upon a golden or silver chariot carried by eight horses. He bears a staff, beads and a lotus and sometimes a bow and arrow. Shukra Dasha truly remains for twenty years in a person’s horoscope and this planet is thought to bestow more money, fortune and luxurious life, if positioned well in one’s horoscope. Venus signifies love and passion. The day of Venus is Friday and gemstone is diamond. Vrishaba Rashi (Edavam) and Tula Rashi (Thulam) are controlled by Lord Shukra or planet Venus.
